Marina Osor is a small town that surely enjoyed its moment of glory in ancient times. The foundations of the city walls show a history that can be traced back to the 9th century BC, the prehistoric Marina Osor is located in an area where the islands of Lošinj almost meet Cres.
The transit and navigation from one sea to another in the Marina was made possible because of a man-made canal named Cavata, Kavuada or Cavanella. The main traffic current between the coasts of the North Adriatic and Dalmatia pass through here and makes Osor an international port. The town's name, Osor-Apsoros, which is thought to derive from the ancient hero Apsyrt, brother of the Medea.
